SPIRITUAL GROWTH

A DISCONTENTED HEART

There are times in one’s life that expectations are not been met, you desire to live in the mountains but instead you live in the sea. Over the years, discontentment has grown slowly gradually draining peace and Joy.

Have you ever felt like the choices you’ve made in the past weren’t good enough? May be you feel stuck up or you are having a feeling of not being fulfilled. When things gets hard in our life,we have a pretty hard time shining the light in our hearts and then we begin to look at things we lack and we blame everything around us and we starts getting frustrated.

What do you think you need in order to be satisfied? Everything comes back to refocusing on the Truth. One can’t just resolve to be content or think happy thoughts to disband unhappy ones, but our contentment must be built on something more solid, more sure and more lasting. The sincere truth is that we are weak and our resolve can fade so we must see Christ has our contentment.

In Philippians 4:11-13 KJV
“Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. [12] I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. [13] I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

For Paul, Christ was the source of his contentment. He knew that to live was Christ and to die was gain. He knew that whether he lived in abundance or lack, he was secured in Christ. The spirit strengthened him to face tribulations and trials. His purpose, joy and satisfaction was in Christ, not his circumstances; This is the secret to contentment.

The real and lasting contentment comes from Christ. PS 37:4. When Christ is your delight and source of Joy, it changes the state of your heart. What Christ wants;you want. Instead of looking at what you don’t have, your heart should rejoice in all you have through Christ. No matter the circumstance, let your well of contentment be deepened and overflowing from the source in Christ himself.

When we begin to seek the Lord and see through the eyes of Christ we will understand that all things are working together for our good. Romans 8:28 KJV
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose”.

So we must place premium on growth in God. The more you grow to trust and depend on him,the more you find your joy in knowing him. The more you seek him above all else, the more you will appreciate the MANNA he provides.
So how can we be helped to be contented in our hearts?

War in Prayer- Talk to God about it. Be intentional about your prayer life. Sacrifice much to pray without ceasing even if you have to wake before your friends and family. It is important that you are in tune with the Lord. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 KJV

Pray without ceasing.

War in guarding your heart– Guard your heart diligently.Proverbs 4:23 KJV

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” Be careful of what you hear, read and watch. Make sure they have content that can edify you so that bad seeds won’t be planted in your heart and you won’t reap the harvest of discontentment fruit. War in renewing your mind.

Stir yourself up in the Lord. Refuse to host a pity party. Make sure you stir yourself up with scripture. Meditate on them daily. Joshua 1:8 KJV

“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”

Also War in fasting.

God wants us to be aware of His continued commitment to lift your life. He desires the commitment of your heart to know him with an increasing depth. Have a contented heart; Christ the great contentment.

Let your heart posture be that, No matter the season, “I want to reflect the radiance of Christ. I want to live out my calling in submissive and joyful obedience. I want to find my contentment in being a redeemed child of God,not in any plans, doings or circumstances.”

Amen
