When there is no growth in a man, there is no life. Where there is life, there is growth. It is, however, important to know that growth does not always come easily. To grow in grace is a gradual process. Note the following points below:
- Christian growth is not a matter of ‘how many’ but it is a matter of ‘how much’.
- Christian growth is not about the number of times you have visited Church this year; it is a matter of how closer you are to Christ in the year.
- Christian growth is not about how many minutes, hours, days you spend in your devotion every day; it is a matter of how much of your prayer has the content of God and is born out of the knowledge of Christ.
- It is not about how many scriptures you have memorized; it is a matter of how much allowance you give to the word of God to transform and change you.

Am I saying it’s not good to pray? No! Is it good to attend church? Yes, it is good! But, the mistake a lot of believers do is that many think ‘the more they do for God, the more spiritual they are’. No! Christian growth is about the quality of life; Christ-life being manifested through you. Christian growth is about how much closer you are getting to God compared to yesterday.
The Lord gave us His grace so we can start our journey and so the grace keeps us growing.
2 Peter 3:18 – “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever. Amen.”
To grow in grace is to mature as a Christian. The process of becoming more like Christ is synonymous with growing in grace. To grow in grace is to grow in your understanding of what Jesus did and grow in the appreciation of the grace that has been given to you.
We grow in grace by studying God’s word, praying and allowing the word to dwell in us richly. Praying and studying are spiritual disciplines to help us grow. Therefore, maturing in your Christian life is not about what you do only but about what God does in you by His grace.

Your growth can be through instructions that the Lord will bring your way. It might be the instruction of coming into the love of the brethren. Increase in love of the brethren is a sign of growth. Brotherly love is a proof for the existence of grace and if you must walk in the grace made available then you must yield to His instructions and by yielding, you grow. The acid test of your devotion to God is your spirituality and a spiritual man is a man that yields to the Lord’s instruction.
Your growth process might be to live a life of consecration. A healthy state of godliness is a growing state. For you to enjoy spiritual comfort, you must be in a growing condition. Live your life after the order of Christ. Live a life worthy of emulation. There is no sure measure of spiritual growth than a habit of aiming at the glory of God in everything.

Whatever growth process the Lord wants to take you through, please submit to the process and let Him lead you through.

See that you grow in grace through your yielding to God.
Shalom!
