SPIRITUAL GROWTH

IN TUNE WITH GOD

How many times do we go through our day, our week, or even a few months and not feel connected to God? We ask ourselves, why don’t we feel connected to him. I know on more than one occasion I’ve felt burnt out with the day to day tasks and didn’t feel connected. Sin had separated man from God, but God in His infinite mercy and abundant love brought man back into fellowship with him. Now he expects the continuity of this relationship between  Himself and man. So you must keep the relationship going if you have been reconciled to God. You must remain in tune with Him.

Be in constant communion with God. Ephesians 6:18 KJV

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.

You will never develop a close relationship with God by just attending church once a week or even by just having a daily quiet time as the normal routine. Friendship with God is built by sharing all your life experiences with him.

God wants more than an appointment in your schedule even with your habit of a daily devotional time with God.  He wants to be involved in every activity, every conversation, every thought, and even every problem. The habit of “praying without ceasing” from 1 Thessalonians 5:17 means conversing with God while cooking, eating, shopping, bathing, driving, working, taking out trash or performing any other day-to-day task. You can carry on a continuous, open-ended conversation with God throughout your day, talking with him about whatever you are doing or thinking at that moment. All you do can be “spending time with God” if he is invited to be a part of it and you stay aware of his presence.

Rick Warren says Since God is with you all the time, no place is any closer to God than the place where you are right now.

Have a humble, broken and contrite spirit before him.

A contrite heart is so necessary in our spiritual development that the person who has never had one may not be prepared. This theme of humility and acceptance is repeated throughout scripture.

We may feel emotionally scared by the tragic events we have experienced, but God finds pleasure in the humility. “contrite” , in the phrase “the contrite ones,” is the root word ‘daka.’ It also implies “to crush.”  In scripture, the Greek word ‘daka’ is translated into the English words or phrases: beat to pieces, break in pieces, broken, bruise, contrite, crush, destroy, humble, oppress, and smite—to name a few.

The humble and contrite are able to hear God and tremble at his word. There is no mocking from the humble and contrite. The contrite and humble can be trusted not to distort the word of God to his own personal benefit.

The contrite person does not carry the anger or fear of punishment that characterizes the bitter person. God assures us that He is near us when our hearts are broken and our spirits are crushed, whether we feel like it or not.

Have a sincerity of heart in serving God.

serve genuinely out of sincere reverence for God. This means that we are to work just as hard when alone as when watched by others. Our effort should not merely be given to win favor but rather out of dedication to the Lord. Even if your employer does nothing to deserve your respect; it is due them given their position over you. To serve them well, is to serve Christ well.

Have the willingness to do his will for your life in every given situation.

Alexander MacLaren said” Those who come near Christ will become like Christ.. If we draw near to Jesus Christ, life from him will pass into our hearts and minds”

What are you waiting for? Start a relationship with Him, stay tuned to Him.

Shalom!
