The responsibility of raising your children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord till Christ is fully formed in them is indeed a very great one. But great as this responsibility may seem, it is heartwarming to note that your labour as a Christian parent, committed to this great and noble work is described by these scriptures:
Prov.10.16 – “The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.”
Prov.14.23 – “In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.”
Imagine the joy you feel after having accomplishment seeing your sons and daughters live godly and fulfilled lives.
Accept the responsibility of parenting. Let parenting start with yourself. Let it not be a case of the blind leading the blind.
2Cor.13.5 – “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?.”
Commit the responsibility into God’s hand and He will direct your path. By this, you will know how to handle each child with their different peculiarities.
Make sure your delight is in the Lord and He will grant your desire concerning the well-being of your child. Also, equip yourself for the task; get acquainted with biblical counsels on parenting. Form an alliance with the child as you agree on the daily laid down rules and house chores time. Seek godly counsels from counsellors on how to handle complicated issues.
Help your child to achieve his educational goals. Intercede and fast regularly on behalf of your children. Don’t jump into conclusion concerning any matter as regards your child. Keep admonishing the child and at no time provoke him.
Love for the child must be manifested physically and spiritually. Mentor the child, keep waiting patiently on the Lord for your desire on him to manifest.
Open your heart to the leading of the Holy Spirit at all times. Preach to the child and ensure he gives his life to Christ. Quietly and tenderly teach the child knowledge. Remind the child daily about the way of God.
Silence every attempt of disobedience by rebuking sharply in love. Take time to be available so as to know the state of the child.
Yield not to the devil’s suggestions but rather be watchful and careful, casting all your cares on God.
Zealously do the work of parenting without looking back so as to be able to receive the gain.
Note, however, that to have this joy of accomplishment in your child training efforts, you must partner with God who instituted the family. His grace crowning your efforts will make it possible for you to attain this joy that comes with accomplishing a great task.
Prov.23.24&25 – “The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him. Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.”
Dear reader, believe God today and great shall be your joy concerning your children even to the fourth and fifth-generation in Jesus name. Amen.
