Spiritual warfare involves leveraging of all that is in God’s promises against everything that opposes God’s purposes. Spiritual warfare is real, but don’t worry, God is with you. All-day, every minute, every second there is an invisible war rage around you unheard, unseen yet felt through all aspects of life.
Everything that occurs in the physical and natural world is connected to the warfare being waged in the spiritual world. The effects of the wrestling going on in the spiritual realm reveal themselves in many areas of life. Some may feel attacked, while others are overwhelmed with fear, and some pinned down by anger; the list goes on.
It can be hard to truly comprehend a threat that comes from things that are unseen. However, the Lord warns us that these threats are very real and to arm ourselves with what He has provided us with. Our biggest problems are actually spiritually rooted.
Ephesians 6:12 – “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
We need to ask the Lord to open our eyes and give us insight. We are in a spiritual war that can only be won with spiritual resources close to us and which we have to use.
The enemy operates through deception and we must be alert so we won’t fall prey to his deception. The enemy manipulates the truth about God, and about our value in Him. So, we must be alert so as not to be led into sin and thereby breaking our fellowship with God, because it is through fellowship that we get true power and strength to discern and fight the enemy.
The enemy often attacks our point of influence, weakness and strength. So, we need to prayerfully discern where his attacks are likely to come from and take adequate steps to defend ourselves with the power of God’s strength. God has given us an armour to help defend ourselves. So, let us, therefore, make use of what God has given us to fight the enemy.
2 Timothy 2:15 – “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
As you study, you would discover that you become alert to scriptural principles and you get understanding. We need to have an understanding of who we are in Christ and its implications. The Lord has provided all we need to win the spiritual battles we face, so we must believe it and act upon it. Abide in Christ! When you do not abide in Christ, you will wither and dry off and it will be so easy for the devil to use you as prey. Get a deep knowledge of God.
Consider your areas of greatest strength and weakness. Keep a watch in those areas and safeguard yourself through prayer. Activate the spiritual resources made available through prayer. Prayer is crucial to knowing God, relating to Him and experiencing His power and grace in your everyday life. Spending time with God and His word will help know Him better and make you assured of His love for you.
Christ has set our feet on the rock and so the first requisite is done. Then from our own part, we must keep near to the gospel which brings peace into our hearts, which is what will make us be able to stand and bear, unmoved by any force that might want to war against us. Let the Spirit renew your thoughts and desires, only then can you fight through successfully.
