As we approach the New Year, it is natural that diverse thoughts run through the minds of many people. To some, especially those who do not know the Lord, the coming year may not hold too many bright promises and prospects because they have been conditioned to always view tommorow in the light and shadows of yesterday. They carry their past with them and they equate the past with the future. But there are others who desire and believe that the new year will be new indeed for them; that will tell a better story in every area of their lives.
In the second group are the children of God who know deep down in their minds that they are legitimate beneficiaries of all the promises he has given in His word. And as such they see every new year as a brand new bundle with an assortment of gifts as the new year unfolds..
Exodus 33:14, God had assured Moses and the Israelites that “My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest”. Glory!!!!!! What other news can be more gladdening than the Almighty God Himself assuring you that his very presence will go with you? And that’s not all. He has also promised to give you rest. This means that in the new year, even in the face of challenges, you will have abundance rest because God has spoken it.
It is not uncommon to hear talks about new year resolutions. Every time another year beckons a lot of people go ahead and make resolutions to have a change of character, habit or attitude. But more often than not, they end up breaking or even forgetting such resolutions. The reason is simple. What they need is not a list of resolutions but a single revolution. See, resolution is all about determination, decision or will power to do or not to do something. But revolution goes beyond all this. It is a total change, a complete shake-up, or what you might call an all-inclusive transformation. This difference (between resolution and revolution) is not all overblown as you might think, for while resolution has to do with human effort, revolution is driven and backed by a greater force- the power of Christ. Besides, while resolution is necessitated by the desire for change, driven revolution is necessitated by need for change.
As long as you don’t seek the help of God for the desired change (or changes) in your life in the new year, every attempt at turning a new leaf will only amount to fruitless fantasies.
Only Christ can make you experience such revolution that will condition evey facet of your life. Keep desiring the knowledge of God in the new year. Take root downwards. You won’t have to struggle with living right, doing right or going on the right direction. You cannot put an old wine in a new bottle (Mark 2:22). This is so true, especially as you step into the new year. You can afford to live an old life in the new year. You must keep dying daily to self. The old creature cannot lead you to success in the new year. You must have your nature recreated and repositioned for true greatness in God.
You must have a true revelation of God. You must not see him as very high and very faraway. You must not see God as being too busy in your little lives. But what you need for victory in the new year is a new and accurate revelation of God. As you step into the new year let God open your eyes to see him as he is. With this new revelation, the way you view things happenings in life will be completely different. Your interpretation of circumstances will take a new turn. When you have this revelation, God will become so real to you and your problems will be insignificant to you. This is God’s plan and desire for you. And once you have this new revelation, you will understand that his real thought for you is to do you good continually. Get a better revelation of God and you will see life in the right perspective.
In the coming year see everything that happens in your life or around you as an occasion for the manifestation of God’s power. When a problem arises, see a loving and powerful God instead of seeing devil and other negative things!
There is a sure promise of restoration in the coming year. Nothing is too hard for God to do. And once he has given a promise, he never goes back on it. All you need is to give him a chance to change everything in your life to fit his own purpose. Let him revolutionize your character and reasoning. Let him give you a better revelation of who He really is. Then you can be sure that this coming year will be the best year of your life so far.
Shalom!
